One of the oldest Spanish settlements within the Philippines. It is situated on the northern peninsula of Mindoro island, approximately 160km from Manila. As early as the 10th Century, Malaysians, Chinese and Indonesian merchants were already doing business with local traders.
Puerto Galera is where they replenished their provisions. Puerto Galera was known as the Port of Galleons. The harbour was an excellent location for the Spanish Galleons to refuge from heavy storms and typhoons.
These days, you’ll find paradise. Puerto Galera is blessed with one of the world’s most beautiful natural harbours. Known as the Pearl of Mindoro, it is world-famous for splendid beaches, coral reefs, and exquisite dive sites for new and experienced divers alike, all this in a relaxed, laid-back beach atmosphere without the hustle and congestion of other tourist destinations.
Located at Small La Laguna beach, El Galleon is the most complete facility in Puerto Galera. Diving, kayaking, sunset cruises; beach hopping, volleyball, snorkelling, trekking, golf, the list goes on. If it's lazy day in the sun or adventure you're looking for, then this is the place for you. Enjoy the peace and tranquillity of private rooms nestled amongst palm trees, with the crystal clear waters of the Philippine sea only a stones throw away.

Sri Lankan warm seas house thousands of marine species
for the fascination of any scuba diver. The recreational coral
reefs around the island range from depth 5-10 meters to 40
meters. Many ancient wrecks, caves and special reef formations
will make a diver to experience best of Scuba Diving.
The aircraft carrier HMS Hermes set sail from Trincomalee
Harbour on 09/04/1942 on a mission. A Japanese invasion
was impending. About 70 carrier borne Japanese bombers
which had taken off from 3 Japanese carriers which had entered
Bay of Bengal the week before, attacked the Trincomalee
harbour end other allied naval assets.
The carrier sank within 10 minutes after being hit by the
Japanese aircraft. From the complement of HMS Hermes 19
officers including the captain (R. J. Onslaw) of the ship and
278 ratings lost their lives. After 60 or so years unseen and
untouched on the bottom of the sea, divers have discovered
the wreck in 2002.
The wreck lies in 48-55 meters of water, overgrown with giant
sea ferns, gorgonians and patrolled by large schools of fish
and other marine life. The ship had sunk tilting port side
down.
